Welcome to our second post. With the recent debut of media options such as iPods, Blackberries, Podcasts to name a few, and new communication channels such as mobility and the Internet, is music becoming more and more a part of our everyday lives or is it just a perception based on the new technology choices?
A benefit of the new technology is that music has become less and less expensive to acquire. So has cheaper prices also translated to an increase in our listening hours?
For those slightly ‘older’ types, take a journey back to the 1970s and 80s when the ways we listened to music meant having the best car stereo, showing off the latest walkmans and boom boxes, using dad’s favourite amplifier, hearing annoying shopping mall elevator music, and getting into dance clubs and entertainment events which blared out great jams. Oh, and who leaves out mind-blowing concerts?
You can substitute all the above with newer technology. I now present in order of appearance: a) digital music stations b) iPods c) deluxe home entertainment centers d) newer shopping mall music (and still annoying at times) e) and the other usual suspects are still alive and kicking.
Not to be generationally outdone, there are two more options today that are truly different; listening to music at work (for at least some of us) and music on our phones.
So, do we really listen to more hours of music or has technology advances simply allow us to broaden our musical tastes for a quick fix?

Welcome to our new site launch! I’m very excited to be writing our first blog as this new initiative has been a 2+ year odyssey to get us here. I have recently asked a number of people what should be our first entry and heard some interesting ideas. The one that continually stood out is about the future of ‘cloud computing’. As it is the basis of our business, we think it’s very important!
In tech circles, there’s been much public discussion about this concept. For those non-techie types cloud computing is all about centralising your computing tasks online instead of doing nearly everything on a personal computer (as we are all use to). In another words, it’s about shifting your computing activities onto the Internet. Social networking sites like Facebook and My Space are a good example of this. With regards to musik its all about people moving, or keeping, their musik collections online.
In essence this is why this site is here. From the very beginning I envisioned a site where the entire business was built and managed online; a site where you didn’t need to download and then install a special program to listen to your musik. In fact you don’t even have to download your musik to listen to it!
When the idea was first conceived several years ago, it took a considerable effort to explain to people what Save My Musik was all about. As time passed and the music industry began to shift its attention to online digital musik, the consumer also became more comfortable with purchasing songs and creating playlists online. In parallel, I also noticed that I did not have to explain our business as much as I used to. People were ‘getting it’ now.
So what do you think about the future of Cloud Computing? Is it here to stay or just another short-lived computer fad?
